SAM HUNT is back in Central for a one-off show in CLYDE!
He’s north of Nightcaps, he’s south of Springfield, he’s almost in Alexandra, he’s close to Cromwell … and he’s coming to Clyde! Sam Hunt is set to perform a one-off afternoon show at the Clyde Memorial Hall on Sunday, March 11, the latest in a long history of performing in the area.
“I’ve been on the road for about 45 years and Central Otago is an essential part of New Zealand. It’s had, from early days when I first travelled through there, a definite attraction,” he said. He added that many of his past tours has taken him to Olivers in Clyde, a venue “you made sure was on your itinerary” as a performer.
It’s not long since Sam was last in the area. His show at the Luggate Hall in September 2011 was a sold out success. Poetic Justice Co-ordinator Laura Williamson said, “It was so neat to see Sam performing at his best to a room full of fans – some with their own stories of past gigs, and some introducing their new generations to the Sam Hunt sound.” Sam said he was looking forward to performing at another classic New Zealand hall with its beautiful acoustics.
He added that Central Otago has long inspired writers and artists. “It’s an inspiring place. If I had to list half a dozen places in New Zealand that are sacred, one would be Central,” he said. He mentioned the writings of Brian Turner and James K Baxter, saying his first conscious knowledge of Clyde came from Baxter’s couplet; “The barman won the trots at Clyde / The day that Concrete Grady died.”
Sam Hunt at the Clyde Memorial Hall – Sunday, March 11th at 2pm. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at Alexandra and Cromwell i-SITES, from Wanaka Fine Wines or on the door, if available. Wine and food will also be available for purchase. Doors open at 1.30.
